Description

At the VW Group of America office, we established a process called HALO (HMI Adaptation and Localization) to create, align and consolidate User Interface requirements specifically for North American customers. Beginning in 2017, I led this initiative by collecting and analyzing inputs from customer feedback, JD Power evaluations, user clinics, and usability research.

Based on these inputs, we conducted design sessions with our UI/UX specialists to develop tailored proposals for the most relevant Infotainment systems such as climate controls, navigation, voice interaction, and smartphone integration (CarPlay and Android Auto). The HALO process also incorporated U.S. guidelines from NHTSA and IIHS to address driver distraction and driver monitoring requirements, ensuring alignment with implementation teams at VW and Audi in Germany. Given the success of the HALO process in improving UI/HMI, it was expanded to include broader User Experience enhancements and new features tailored to the North American market—such as Valet Mode, Physical control buttons, Drive Assist enhancements, etc.

Great products are the result of the work and dedication of amazing teams with a common goal
